2007 Dyna Wide Glide Trike Conversion

This past April (2017) we were presented a challenge. Convert this 2007 Dyna Wide Glide into a Trike.

Unlike a stock Harley-Davidson Trike or aftermarket kits made by other companies, the DFT (Darn Fine Trike) kit has an independent suspension for the best perfomance and smoothest ride of any other trike kit, even Harley's.

The Dyna had been a Birthday Gift from our Customer to her Husband almost ten years ago. They enjoyed riding together and planned on taking several extended trips.

With our deepest sympathies, He unfortunately passed away before these trips could be fulfilled.

Undaunted, our Customer decided she would still take these trips, not alone, but with her memories of him.

There was only one problem, the bike was too large for her to handle. The solution, a Trike Conversion.

Then we wait ....

So, to begin with, we changed the cam for more torque and converted the forward controls to a mid control setup to accomodate our customer's short stature better. The bike was then dyno tuned and test ridden before the real fun would begin.

With Wheels and Tires purchased locally from Belle Tire, the beast begins to awaken. An AIM Mamaba Reverse Drive kit was added before a test ride was taken. Then it was onto the next stage; fitting and aligning the trunk before sending it out to be painted.

Dry fitting of the rear end was done next. Clearances and alignment were double checked and found to be just fine. So, we disassembled and sent the rear end out for painting.

With thebody parts securely bolted on, a last check is made to ensure everything is square, level and straight. Then the tail lights are wired in and the trunk liner secured in place.

Finally, one last dry fit. Then holes are marked and drilled and we bolt the new rear to the swingarm assembly.

.... and a few weeks later the painted rear end assembly is ready.

After a final test drive, we wipe her down, give her a good coat of wax and shine her up for our customer.

Finally, we our customer and she comes down to pick up. By shear chance, it was also ten years to the date of her gifting it to her husband. Her smile says it all.

Most conversions run $25-$35k completed.

When you look at a new Tri Glide that starts at $35k and lacks an independent suspension and has less storage, the value of converting your existing bike becomes apparent fast.

Let's not forget, that your trike would be a one of a kind and stand out from the rest.
